Foundation Repair Case Studies: Crew Stabilizes Basement Wall in Jeopardy of Collapsing in St. Clair Shores
Challenge
When a homeowner contacted HomeSpec about a large crack in her basement wall, we found that several of the walls were cracked in multiple areas. This fracturing was the result of hydrostatic pressure pushing against the outside of the poured concrete foundations walls.
One of the walls had three cracks from this pressure, including a crack that ran from a window to the floor. These cracks put the wall in severe jeopardy of complete failure if another horizontal crack formed in it. If this were to happen, the entire wall would need to be rebuilt.
Two other walls were also cracked and at risk of breaking down. Additionally, numerous cracks were leaking.
Solution
Our team injected the cracks with polyurethane and epoxy to stop the cracks from leaking again. We also installed carbon fiber necktie supports, carbon fiber straps, and carbon fiber sheer pins on three of the walls. The supports, straps, and sheer pins were used to stabilize the basement walls to prevent wall movement.
The job included a fully transferable warranty that protects the homeowner against the cracks leaking again and future wall movement.
