This customer purchased a home from their grandfather a year ago with the plans of living there for a long time. In the excitement of renovating the home to include a man cave and a mudroom, the homeowner and their partner found black mold in the basement. In the year of living in their new home, their allergies had worsened and illness became apparent. One of HomeSpec’s project managers, Elon, visited the home to provide a free inspection. He did a thorough assessment before returning to the homeowners to discuss a plan to repair their basement. Elon recommended first applying Mold-X2 and then moving on to the waterproofing efforts. This included installing an interior drainage system featuring WaterGuard® French drains, a new sump pump, a new sump pump discharge, and a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier. The water needs to be pumped away from the home through the discharge line. It's best for it to be buried to hide the unsightly pipe and prevent tripping hazards. The further the discharge is from the home, the better – so the water coming out won't have a chance to leak back into the basement. 

That's what HomeSpec did for this homeowner in Willis, Michigan. The discharge line was extended and buried, and when it was finished, you could barely tell the grass was removed! 

The owners of this Saline, Michigan home were planning on flipping the house, but needed to address the wet basement issues first. The basement is only 4 ft. underground, but still suffered from dampness after rain. Water would seep in through the concrete block walls, especially toward the bottom of the wall.

The biggest sign of this water damage was the efflorescence on the walls (white powder) which is caused by the loss of lime salt. There was also much discoloration on the floor and walls. The basement needed to be waterproofed before it could be finished, so HomeSpec got to work!
